After suffering through all of that, I have concluded that I hate Rick Santorum MORE than ever before. (If that's even possible.) They all suck on social policy. They all suck on foreign policy. They all suck. Claudia, where are you? (You know she'd be all over this like white on rice.)

Why is it that I agree with Ron Paul so much of the time and then he pulls out a zinger and I have to write him off as crazy? I don't get it.

You didn't miss much. You could have predicted this just as easily. Newt leading the circle jerk against Obama and blaming the media for introducing a fight between the candidates. A lot of Reagan loving. A lot of tracking back previous statements. And Ron Paul and 999 Hermain Cain. (I missed that so I can't wait to read about it tomorrow.)

I'm seeing some of the "lowlights" this morning. Perry is off his rocker. And Romney is actually trying to get to the left of Perry by "defending" Social Security.

I've got to say this. Rachel Maddow's apparently genuine giddiness whenever she covers events like this turns my stomach. She seemingly can't get enough of poliTICS (as opposed to poliCY): the personalities, the partisanship, the bickering, the sloganeering, the spin, etc. She seems to thoroughly enjoy entertaining* TRUTHINESS.

* in both senses of the word

Yeah. I don't know why she does a decent job of covering issues on her show most of the time, and then gets all caught up in the horse race aspects of debates and elections. Who's up? Who's down? Who got one over on the forerunner? Can that one still be considered the forerunner? How will that gaffe affect elderly primary voters in North Carolina and Hispanic voters in Nevada months from now? ARGRRHH! It drives me batty!

I suspect that her having a Ph.D. in Political Science from Oxford, might explain her apparent fascination with the "horse race" aspects of campaigns. Observing the political animals politicians are, is her "sport." That coupled with her undergrad degree in Public Policy from Stanford fuels her fire, so to speak. My poli-sci advisor was the same come election time.
